"To love oneself

is the beginning of

a lifelong

romance"

Sometimes being a teen can be hard, sometimes being an adult can be hard, sometimes life can be hard. No matter who you are, life will always throw challenges your way. Different people cope with certain situations better than others but even the most positive people can struggle to maintain the best attitude when the going gets tough. It is important to remember that the more difficult things become, the more important it is to find a positive attitude from deep within. In the most negative times, thinking positively can be the last thing on your mind but in these times, sometimes positivity is the only thing that can get you through it.

Positive thinking is not just about finding the silver lining though, it’s the little positive thoughts throughout your day that can make all the difference. Overall, positivity has great impacts on your mental health, but it is also a large part of a healthy body image as well. Positive self-talk can change the way you see yourself and affect your mental state. With body image being a growing concern around the world, especially in today’s youth, it is important to educate people on the importance of the little things that can help you along the way. Even though we don’t realise it, we are talking to ourselves all through the day and it’s the negative comments about ourselves that make the most impact. Many of us have grown up in a society where the ‘perfect body’ has come from what we see in the media and what we perceive to be attractive. Because of this, many people look in the mirror and see nothing but faults and flaws. We tell ourselves that we aren’t good enough because we don’t like what we see. This is where positive self-talk is needed most. There is no such thing as perfect, it is just an illusion. The first step to self-acceptance is self love. Instead of looking in the mirror and pointing out the things you don’t like about your body, point out the things you do love. Don’t compare yourself to others or wish you were someone else. Instead, let the voice in your head remind you that are good enough. One positive thought about yourself can make all the difference, you just have to believe it.
